Is it eco-friendly to buy a Toyota Corolla? Or to buy a Toyota Prius?
Looking to buy a car that will drive me to school and work. Currently, I am interested in the 1998-2002 models of Toyota Corolla and 2nd generation Toyota Prius. Luxury accessories such as power windows, sunroof, leather seats, … etc. are not important to me. My goal is to have a means of personal transportation (other than my bicycle) which has the least adverse effects on our planet. Soon I'll be commuting to another city and my bike is not very practical (or legal) on a major road! If you have personal experience with the shuttle or other vehicle, please help me and tell me what you think of your car! Or if you know much about either car, your help is very much appreciated! Thank you and good day!
No car is totally safe for the planet, you can choose one that is not as bad as some. Toyota has a plan to make all its cars with a component "zero waste". I think last year they had reached. You can find on the website in the Japanese sections of the environment (do not worry, the pages are in English). http://www.toyota.co.jp/ The Prius took special attention to the greening: 1. Plastics are bio-plastics special rather than petroleum-based. 2. The wiring harness is designed to pull when the car is hers is dying so that the metal will actually recycled. 3. It is noted as a car almost zero emissions (from 2004). 4. The traction battery (great battery) is completely recyclable and contains elements less toxic than a lead-acid battery. Toyota pays a premium of $ 200 on the battery (there is a phone number for recycling stamped on the battery). The battery is designed to last the life of the car, like a transmission in an old car, so it's not like you will call this issue. I have a 2001 and a 2004 Prius. They have been extremely reliable car, fun to drive and easy to maintain. The 2004 is now 100.000 miles on it and had an average life (as recorded in my diary) of 56 mpg. After six years, I always look forward to the trip morning. I drove a Corolla on my journey as well, and found that it receives about half the mpg that my Prius gets (that's you see). He also feels a bit cramped) and are not near the cargo room (the Corolla is a compact, Prius average size). The Prius will be four in adult size or you can put your bike in the back without taking the front wheel. The older corollas that you mention are not nearly as clean as the most recent and the Prius is even better. You can join a couple of Prius Yahoo group for additional information and perhaps some off-list communications.
