Travel in the Western Hemisphere Initiative Update
Every day when you expected a simple flash of your license drive or your tan to be a beautiful testimony of your ethnicity trip from Cancun or the Caribbean will soon be completed. From 1 June 2009, the Government of the United States puts the laws of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) in effect as a means of stabilizing and strengthening borders between Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, the Caribbean and the United States.
You would need to get your passport to enter and out of these places numerous. Therefore, the simplest solution steering government policy is to get a Passport account. Even if you could be able to travel to some of your neighboring places with only your license or ID card but in order to get in the States, you would need your passport. Your options now remain strictly either present your passport or membership in a trusted traveler program card such as NEXUS, which is used for travel involving the United States and Canada, or SENTRI is used for travel, connecting the United States and the Mexico.

The second program is enhanced driver's license, which is still once for land travel and sea and not for air. This map is currently only issued by the states of New York, Vermont and Michigan. All ages under 16 years are exempt from this May to present their birth certificate.
All Mexican citizens are not affected by the WHTI. Mexican nationals, with the inclusion of children, are currently showing a passport with a nonimmigrant visa. They may even show a visa Laser Border Crossing Card to go across the U.S. border. This condition is also applicable to members of the SENTRI program.
