With high gas prices, why not improve and add train service, as trains high gear?
The rising gas prices have increased demand for improved rail service. Why not start using high speed (200-300 mph) trains that are used in France and Japan? This could be done almost immediately. This would a trip from Atlanta to New York, about three hours. Another idea: combine passenger trains with freight trains for more options and better efficiency .. With the airlines reduce service and pricing for money for a glass of water, the trains were really a golden opportunity. Luxury cars could even be proposed.
Great question. There was a train show few months ago and a speaker talking about the same thing. When a diesel engine to be warmed up, he gets hundreds of miles per gallon, which would make a wonderful option in Travel. The problem is that in recent decades, the United States has been systematically tearing lines Railway, thinking they're obsolete. And thanks to organizations like the Teamsters Union, much of the cargo in the United States is moved with trucks. Who is the opposite in places like Europe, which has an extensive rail network. I lived in Europe for 3 years and loved the fact I could get almost anywhere on the rail, and is inexpensive. Of course, the United States is larger than Europe, but they need to stop taking part in rail infrastructure and begin to reinvest in rail infrastructure.
