"We've seen ESC reduce fatalities by almost half in some cases," said Russ Rader, spokesman for Virginia-based IIHS. "ESC is especially important to reduce the number of deaths for the single car accidents."
Picks of the organization were chosen from 2008 cars, minivans, SUVs and vans. Each vehicle underwent front Side and rear-crash tests, and injuries were measured on dummies in the driver and rear seats.

"Top Safety Picks recognize the best in their class, but it is difficult to compare," he said. "You should, however, to avoid vehicles that perform less "good" in any test. "
