There is much uncertainty today in terms of what you have available … but also blurring as to what is an "American" or "European" car (with gloablization so much of the manufacturing and design – Ie: is it still a European car, if it is designed in California and assembled in Canada from parts made in Brazil?). But the fact remains, there are still some very different considerations about what is important for American and European consumers. Perfect example would be that it was not until 1998 (I think, give or take a year) when Mercedes finally added cupholders in their cars because of consumer expectations U.S.! Or even that almost all rental cars that I had in Europe in recent years is still a manual transmission so I do not think not that I never had any other than Automatic for the rental in the United States. There are many more small roads in Europe compared to the straight lines often long open in the United States. Route and alignment is the dominant form of racing there, while the stock cars around oval and drag the top of shopping lists in the United States. All these elements add up to a slightly different list of priorities when a car is designed. I do not know that I could call any American sports car "gross". And probably all the sports cars from the 60s and 70s would considered difficult to drive by modern standards (I charge regular track events and personally driving a sports car more age at these events). Looking at modern cars, they are all more powerful, better handling and more luxurious than their ancestors. But they almost all have the same list of priorities.
