In 1953 this beautifully restored Porsche 550 Coupé – chassis number 500-01 – competed in the infamous La Carrera Panamericana, one of the world’s most gruelling endurance races. Motoring journalist Doug Nye explains some of the race’s history, while Scott George from the Collier Collection explains how success came through an obsession with lightness.
